Frequently Asked Questions
Why is there a registration fee?
In Volunteer Abroad GT, we look forward to the sustainability of each of the projects that we run. Our aim is to provide these programs with financial and technical support to help them grow and succeed in the long-term. Probably, you’re asking yourself what happens to the $249 that you pay to join our Program’s Network; well, let us explain. With this payment, we make sure that the projects receive their donation in order to buy materials that will help them grow and help a greater portion of the community, we also make sure that each of the projects is using their resources accordingly to their mission. This Membership fee that you’re paying, helps us to create and manage projects in different areas, as well as to strengthen the organizations that belong to the Volunteer Abroad GT network to improve the lives of those in most need. To make it even better, we make sure to give constant support and follow up to each program to make sure that your efforts when volunteering remains and are making an impact in the long run. With this membership, you’ll be automatically subscribed to our monthly newsletter to keep track of the improvements of each of the programs you helped.
What extra costs are involved?
In addition to the Registration Fee and Program Fee volunteers must arrange their own flights to and from the destination. As well as any visa requirements and travel insurance. It is important to also consider budgeting for spending money. Some volunteers manage to get by without spending much while others can spend $15-30 per day on extras, including socializing with other volunteers, buying snacks and souvenirs, eating at cafes or restaurants, transport and weekend travel, etc. Ultimately it depends on the person, but I would probably suggest budgeting $20- 25 per day for personal expenses.
What are the requirements to volunteer abroad?
VAGT's only requirements are fluency in English, a clean criminal background, and a willingness to learn. Please note that for our Medical and Healthcare projects, volunteers must be qualified or training in a relevant medical field and documentation to confirm this must be presented upon arrival.
